Follow-up: Agricultural Runoff

My paper will specifically look at the governmental regulations that can be put into place to have cleaner agricultural runoff. This environmental health issue is detrimental to many aspects of life and can cause issues such as algae blooms, unsafe drinking water, and chemically contaminated resources. Agricultural runoff needs to be more strictly regulated by the government because the current regulation, The Clean Water Act, is not doing enough to provide a safe environment. Farmers and agricultural companies must be held accountable if they do not follow the regulations that are in place because they are the ones that are putting everybody else’s lives at risk.

Psychological Experiments on Humans and Their Effects

This paper proposes to engage in the investigation of psychological experiments on humans throughout history and whether or not the ends justify the means. I will use many experiments in my essay that were performed at various times, as well as experiments where the subjects did not consent to participate in. By using many different experiments in different time periods, it will help to develop how psychologists in the past got away with so many verses how in today’s society it isn’t as easy to do. This essay will serve as an in-depth analysis of specific experiments, how it affected the participants, and if psychological advances were made due to them. If the experiments mean to justify the means, is it still ethical to put participants through psychological torment?

Topic chosen: Social Media and Eating Disorders:

The topic I decided to write about is the Effects social media plays on eating disorders. I will talk about in further detail how social media influencers impact specifically teenage girls and their body images over Instagram. In addition, I will research the psychological effects social media plays on the youth.

What I would like to research is how social media can cause insecurities which eventually can lead to eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia. Individuals with eating disorders constantly compare themselves to others, which is a main factor in social media. When a person with an eating disorder sees a photo on Instagram of their favorite model in a bikini looking extremely thin, they can begin to compare themselves and obsess over the image of looking exactly like that model even if it is not realistic to their body type. People become fixated on looking a certain way.

Some research that I found interesting was on pro-anorexia and pro-bulimia and how there are places on social media that encourage eating disorders. People on this platform can compare body images and give harmful advice to hurt their bodies by not eating.

Animals are a Man’s Best Friend

My essay will serve to advocate for the effectiveness of having pets to a person’s health, both physical and mental. Though it is not proven that all pets are able to improve a person’s health, dogs especially have shown to make significant differences in people. There have been many studies done that show that having a pet such as a dog is linked to people having a lower risk of heart disease, longer life expectancies, and lowered blood pressure. Pets have also been linked with people increasing their owner’s exercise and reaching the government’s recommended amount. Along with physical health impacts, pets are also linked to decreased stress and people having better moods. Pets have also been trained to help people perform everyday tasks that may be too challenging for them to do themselves. Guide dogs are used by people who are blind to help them stop at curbs, cross the street and have the smarts to keep their human safe. This shows there have been many uses for pets, not just for our own desires.

The High Cost of Prescription Drugs

My proposal is to find alternatives to the crippling costs of prescription drugs. These drugs are necessary for many to live, and their extreme prices are causing many consumers to limit their medicinal intake, quit taking their prescriptions, or make tradeoffs to afford them. I will be exploring this issue and its direct relation to senior citizens.

There are many alternatives to this extreme drug pricing. In this essay I will propose three alternatives- drug transparency, drug importation from Canada, and a drug affordability review board. All three of these, if implemented into active legislation, could help sustain an older generation both through their health and financial stability.

My topic for the paper is religion.  There have been many circumstances and issues in society today, that have been very controversial based on religion. Religion should be very personal, kept to yourself and restricted to only your life. Many religious people try to force their religion onto other people because it is what they believe is right. Everyone is entitled to their own viewpoints, opinions, and passions, although, they should not affect anyone else’s life.

In my paper, I would like to research the affect religion has on society and the impacts other religions try to have on other people. I would like to bring awareness to the fact that everyone is entitled to their own views of life and their own opinions, but these should not be allowed to dictate someone else’s decisions or to be judged by not being a apart of one’s certain religion.

Chesapeake Bay Research Proposal

In my paper, I would like to research the effects of human activity on the Chesapeake bay and its wildlife, and determine what the next steps would be for restoration of the ecosystem. Living in Maryland myself, the bay is a place I have visited a good number of times and know well, but I also know that humans have a negative impact on the health of the bay and is causing many of its species to be in danger. There are certain steps humans must begin taking to help save the bay and its inhabitants.

The Chesapeake Bay is a very large part of the culture in Maryland, and provides the famous blue crabs that it is known for. Maryland residents have also long enjoyed sailing, fishing, clamming, swimming, etc. in the bay for as long as the state has been around. However, we have mistreated the bay and caused pollution, overfished, and caused the once crystal clear bay to turn a murky brown. Many studies show dwindling numbers of organisms and worse and worse water health reports. What can be done to undo this damage we have caused?

Proposal to research if Physician Assisted suicide be legalized

This proposal is targeted to address the controversial topic of the legalization of phsyician-assisted suicide, consistently being debated within the medical world. Many experts suggest the ethical relation to the procedure, consequently having conflicting opinions with not only the general public, but the medical professionals administering it themselves.

The outcome of this research is to strictly determine the approaches and variables that may construct the possible dictation of managing a law such as this. The results are important to the many people quietly suffering, and how we as a society should deal with the moral relations of the decision making process behind terminating lives, including its possible association with mental health. To summarize, this study will create a new world for the medical field to understand people when reflecting on someone’s decision to end their life, describing the moral ethics of it all, and building a safe environment for those willing to express their unhappiness and what causes it.

A MODESTY PROPOSAL:

In recent years, there has been a rise in awareness of seemingly unfair school dress codes. It has become commonplace to see news stories of, often, young women and people of color posting on social media pictures of the outfits they got sent home from school for wearing. These are generally outfits that are seen as acceptable to most of society. Many young women have staged protests at their schools against dress codes that unfairly target them. I want to research the effects discriminatory dress codes have on the students targeted by them, as well as who makes these dress codes and how they do so. Overly strict dress codes claim to have students’ best interests in mind, but ultimately disproportionately target women and minorities and can have drastic effects on their education and mental health.

In this essay, I will analyze common themes in dress codes from around the country, focusing on public high schools. I will discuss the origins of dress codes and specific guidelines in them. This essay will link sexist and white-centric fears with targeted dress codes and the history of why dress codes exist in many places. I will then talk about the ways in which dress codes are enforced in often sexist and humiliating ways and the effects this has on students’ mental health and identity. I will specifically analyze how female students, students of color, and LGBTQ+ students are affected by dress codes.

Lack of legislation is the reason for mass shootings in the U.S.

This goal of this paper is to establish and prove that the main issue behind the seemingly incessant mass shootings in the United States is not the mental health issues that the country faces. Many other countries face parallel issues with mental health yet none of them have statistics that can compare to the number of mass shootings that occur in the United States on a sickening basis. The leniency in America on gun control legislation is very much to blame for the epidemic of gun violence taking the country by storm. So, therefore, even though the United States has an abundantly clear issue with the stigmatizing mental illness, the real problem at the root of mass shootings is the accessibility of assault weapons and the leniency of gun control legislation.

As far as research goes, I plan to delve into the difference between gun control laws in the United States and other similar countries. I will also be researching the number of firearm-related deaths in the United States as opposed to other countries while also comparing that to the population since the United States is an incredibly populated country. I am looking to distinguish a clear pattern between the lack of legislation regarding gun control and the number of mass shootings in the United States.
