P2 Proposal Ideas

As a music education major, I want to focus on a research topic relating to music. I didn’t want to research education, specifically because I want to learn more about other musical aspects. Here are a few options that I might want to research!

Option 1: Social media’s influence on the music business– how do applications like youtube, Spotify, instagram, etc… affect aspiring artists trying to break into the music industry, today?

Option 2: Culture v. Music throughout the decades– why do older generations tend to dislike new music? why are new genres/styles hated on when first released, then gradually accepted?

Option 3: Movie/TV Soundtracks and the Watcher– how do movie/tv soundtracks affect watchers emotionally (psychologically)?

research (rant) idea

Hey Michael I did NOT forget this week’s blog post, granted it’s two days late

I kind of don’t want to do this idea only because of the awkward reputation it will give me (or at least that I believe it gives me) but I have a pretty good outline for the Toxicity of the Korean Pop Industry (on the idols). I already put together a super basic outline and examples I can put in each paragraph (there is a lot more but I stopped at one). It’s really just going to be a big rant and all of my scholarly sources can be the effects of fame or how the music industry works and they don’t even have to be pinpointing the kpop industry.

  • Toxicity of the Korean music industry on idols
    • Starvation
      • Wendy
    • Exhaustion and Injuries
      • Tao / Luhan
    • Depression
      • Jonghyun
    • Isolation
      •  Baekhyun x Taeyeon break up
    • Gossip
      • Knowing Bros / Heechul

The only other idea I have would be like, children’s cartoons and the positive messages they’re sending out to viewers, and the lessons they teach that even adults somewhat struggle to accept. I could also talk about the positive psychology involved and how it helps child development with morality and builds on Erik Erikson’s psychosocial development theory. This idea would definitely have a lot of sources and a solid stance (and it also relates to my major) and I would also be interested in doing this but I don’t have a set outline yet.

P2 Proposal

Right now, I intend to write my paper on the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and the clean up efforts that are currently being implemented or may be implemented in the future. I am very interested in environmental issues, especially regarding our oceans, and would love to explore the methods that are being used to clean up pollution.

I was also considering writing about the effects oxybenzone and octinoxate have on marine life, but feel as though I can find more research on the garbage patch.

P2 Proposal

Initial Question: What means of therapy (besides medication) can be used to prevent, treat, or alleviate symptoms of Schizophrenia within patients?

  • Is Art Therapy an effective method of intervention when treating patients within the early stages of Schizophrenia?
  • Can video games be used to treat patients who suffer from Schizophrenia?

P2 – Proposal Topics

The topics I would like to consider revolve around psychology within group/ social dynamics:

The first topic revolves around the role gender has on psychological perspective; I would like to look into if there is a gender based foundation to behavior and psychology that is removed from cultural consideration. Going with this topic would research to what extent gender dictates our collective and individual thought process.

The second topic I would like to consider investigates group dynamics. I would like to research how psychological processes in groups lead to the emergence of leaders. Moreover, how does the emergence of leaders lead to the compliance of others?

Another topic I was thinking about deals with what “normal” is. To what extent is psychology reliant on culture to define normalcy?

Proposal

I want to research how movies can persuade political views. Sometimes when a movie isn’t even about politics, it can still send a political message or even mirror the current political climate. Both the movies and politics are a part of everyone’s lives, so this research can be beneficial for everyone.
